the sword and scabbard are way too big for my taste
It is large, compared to most Roman swords, but the proportions are correct for a fourth century cavalry spatha... the gladius was no longer in use by that time.
Of course the gladius was not used any more at that time, due to significantly changed infantry tactics. The "spatha" derived from late Latene swords introduced in the auxilliary roman cavalry during the second civil war. Once late Roman tactics increasingly relied on cavalry, the spatha spread to the infantry as well. Type of sword prevailed very long to early medieval times, the latest versions being used by wikings, but broader and a bit shorter.
btw, I did not say I don't like Justinian, I only wanted to illustrate why I do find the sword too big....
don't know if the mould is already made, but I would strongly suggest resizing sword and scabbard with historical wargamers in mind....
Otherwise he would make an excellent King Arthur in the historical version
