Black Army Productions order impressions

I thought it might be interesting to have a thread about our impressions of the BAP figures we order.

For my part, I'm really impressed with the latest batch. The first few were a bit smallish and of mixed quality (though all very usable), but these are wonderful figures up there with Artizan, Pulp Figures or the better Paul Hicks sculpts, both in terms of quality and size.

The ventriloquist has two dummies to choose from (the second one will make a nice decorative accessory). The three Japanese figures will make great characters in my Weird War II Japanese force. smile

Yes, if you can give me 10 days (won't have access to my figures before that).

Great idea, WK. Looking forward to seeing how this develops.

I just remembered, I've also done some comparison pics for the What The?! Miniatures forum. Thought I might add one, just in case... ;)

From left to right: Herr Totenkopf (WTM), Tesla (BAP), Luftfaust Gunner (WTM), Witch Hunter (BAP)

Thanks, guys. Finally back from Mexico, so can comment on this!

For those curious about actual sizes, the Pulp and Champions of History figs are designed to be size compatible with Pulp Figures (my favorite range, other than my own of course, for the period). This means that most are between 28 and 31mm tall, or roughly "True 28s" in the parlance. Generally speaking, the dimensions are meant to be "realistic", meaning not too slender, not too bulky, somewhere in between.

The newer figs are what Jen and I consider to be "Black Army 2.0", ie: better sculpts, more photo realism, etc, for the characters. I'm pleased that you like them too. I think my favorite figs in the new waves released are the Japanese infantrymen - they are just awesome figures in the flesh - but they all turned out well. Most people seem to think that Adamski is our best to date, which is why I have Brian Cooke working on a bunch of other stuff at the moment.

We do plan to re-do some of the older sculpts, but that depends upon how things go. To be quite honest, Pulp is rapidly losing popularity here in the states, and so even the new stuff is doing much more poorly than I had initially expected, so we have to move slowly, though we aren't abandoning the range. Instead, we're moving forward with a couple other things just to keep the company relevant and diverse.

The figs we have planned for "A Very American Civil War" will likely be in the same size, but those are still on the drawing board at the moment since the book isn't ready for print yet.

Our "secret project" range, which should be out (crossing fingers) in the July/August timeframe (in time for Labor Day Weekend, when we'll be at a con) are being sculpted in "Heroic 32mm" scale. This means that they'll be slightly taller than most of the figs here, but probably not so huge that you couldn't mix them if you wanted to. The range will include vehicles - these will also be size compatible with our other vehicles, but perhaps a tad larger to account for the larger miniatures in the "secret project" range. Most of the sculpts are done. Brian is doing another set of six, Leandro is doing a character and his companion, and Dampfpanzerwagen is doing the first vehicle for the range.

Anyway, those figs are thus far being sculpted by Brian and Leandro, and they have the same "realistic" proportions, from what I've seen of the greens so far. So don't go thinking grotesquely huge features when you think "Heroic 32"; not going to happen. Maybe some of the special characters might... err.. merit that... but it'll make sense for the character, if it happens.
